The region of Narembeen is situated in the north-central part of the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 286 kilometers east-southeast of Perth. The locality was initially called Nambiarrin, derived from the Aboriginal words "nambian" which translates to living water or swamp, and "yarrin" meaning at.

The first inhabitants of the region were the Ballardong Noongar people who have lived in this area for thousands of years. They were hunter-gatherers who lived off the land and had extensive knowledge of the local flora and fauna. The Ballardong Noongar people had a deep spiritual connection to the land, and their culture, which is still alive today, is an integral part of the region's identity.

The first European exploration of the region occurred in 1836 when John Septimus Roe, a surveyor-general for the Swan River Colony, traveled through the area. The first pastoral lease in the region was taken up in 1866 by Charles Harper, who named the station Narembeen after the local Aboriginal word. The town of Narembeen was then established in 1913 when the railway line was extended to this area.

The town grew rapidly in the 1920s and 1930s due to the expansion of farming and the construction of infrastructure such as banks, shops, and schools. The Great Depression saw a temporary downturn in the town's development, but it picked up again after World War II when returned servicemen settled in the area and established new farms.

In the 1960s, the town experienced another period of growth with the expansion of irrigation and the establishment of new industries such as wool scouring and poultry farming. The region is now known for its diverse agricultural sector, including crops such as wheat, canola, and lupins, as well as livestock farming and wool production.

The town's heritage is still visible today in its historic buildings such as the Narembeen Railway Station and the Narembeen Hotel, both of which were constructed in the early 1900s. The town also has a War Memorial that pays tribute to the local soldiers who have served in various conflicts.

The Narembeen Agricultural Show is an annual event that celebrates the region's agricultural heritage and is a popular event for locals and visitors alike. The show typically includes a range of activities and events, including livestock judging, craft displays, and sideshow attractions.

In recent years, the region of Narembeen has faced challenges such as drought and declining population, which have impacted the local economy and community. However, the town's resilient and determined spirit is evident in a range of initiatives, including the establishment of the Narembeen Community Resource Centre and the development of new industries such as solar power generation.

Overall, the local history of Narembeen is a rich and diverse one that continues to evolve and shape the region's identity. From its Aboriginal heritage to its early European settlement, its agricultural growth over the years, and its current challenges, Narembeen is a town that has overcome many obstacles and remains an important part of Western Australia's history and culture.
